Sunday Summary

I've decided that I'd like to develop the habit of blogging every Sunday.  Sunday is typically my favorite day of the week.  We wake up, go to church, occasionally have lunch with friends, and that's about it.  Sometimes we nap.  Sometimes we go on walks. We really enjoy our day of rest, and thank the Lord for giving us such a gift.  So even though I power blogged earlier this week and posted 4 blogs in one day, I'm still going to post a quick update today and begin my new Sunday habit.

This week was crazy busy.  We are blessed to live a full and abundant life.  On Monday nights we have small group and this week I was really blessed by the content.  We are going through a book called, "Real Marriage" by Mark and Grace Driscoll.  This week was all about being friends with benefits.  One of the most critical foundations of a solid marriage is friendship.  My friend, Jamie Christ, pointed out that Jesus said it best in John 15:13, "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friend."  The ultimate act of a friend is to lay down one's life for them.  The ultimate act of a spouse is to lay down one's life for their partner.  This week I have been reflecting on ways that I can best lay down my life for my best friend, Justin Mederich.

Wednesday night Justin and I were invited to be part of a panel at our friend Justin Chandler's youth group, The Factory.  Justin and Justin have been friends for many years.  They grew up together in Colorado Springs.  My hubby invited Justin Chandler to church and they have been friends since.  It is really neat to see Justin Chandler in action as he pastors his youth group.  Anyway, over the summer they are taking time to answer questions that his students have submitted.  This week the topic was the sex questions, and Justin and I were able to speak on the sin of pornography.  It was neat to see the students moved to action and the time of worship afterwards was super sweet.   Sidenote: Justin's family is great!  His wife Rachel and son Jude are so fun, and it's a blessing to see the whole family together in ministry.

For the life of me I cannot remember which day this week we received another sewing project from the talented Aunt Janis.  She is quite humble and calls herself a beginner, but check out this awesome quilt she made for Via.  I told her I planned to do an orange and grey nursery theme and before I knew it she had whipped this up.  The words "Sylvia" and "love" are written around the perimeter of the quilt.  She suggested that it be used for Via's tummy time, and I can't wait to make that happen!

Moon Palace Cancun Nizuc - 5 Things I LOVED, and 3 Things I didn't

All-Inclusive vacations may not be everyone's cup of tea, but over the past 6 years I have developed an appreciation (addiction) for taking a vacation where I don't really have to think much.  Between the demands of marriage, parenting, career, housework, and kids activities, it is really nice to pay a sum of money for your vacation and then just......enjoy!  Many all-inclusive resorts include more than just food and beverage.  There is often entertainment, activities, childcare, fitness classes, and plenty to keep you busy without leaving the property or spending additional money.  If you like, you can also book excursions or explore the local area at an extra expense.  We have rarely opted to do anything extra as we are typically happy to take advantage of the included options.   Listen, in my experience, you get what you pay for with, well, almost everything.  And that goes for all-inclusive resorts.  We have gone low-end, mid-range, and h...

Our Creator is not a Careless Mechanic

On Friday, November 2, Justin and I headed to our 41 week and 1 day checkup.  I had been having consistently inconsistent contractions for days, but.......Still.No.Baby.  My doctor wanted to monitor me and Via for half an hour and was looking for us to score 10 out of 10 points.  After half an hour of monitoring us she only found 6 points - also my blood pressure was much higher than it had been during the rest of my pregnancy.  Justin and I listened as she explained that the placenta may not be doing the best job for the baby anymore.  She looked at me and said, "If you were the type of mom that was planning to have an epidural, then I'd say let's go to the hospital, put you on pitocin, and have this baby."  She went on to say that since we favored a drug-free approach we had two options: 1.  Go to the hospital and be monitored for 24 hours to see if we could make up the 4 points we were missing.  If all looked good, then we could go ...

Sun Palace - July 2022

We are on our way home from our 6th Annual Away and it occurred to me that I take the fewest pictures on these trips. I don’t use or look at my phone very much because I like to unplug as much as possible and do “perfect day” activities. That means fewer pictures, but usually more enjoyment.  I think it’s a fun game to explore what would make up an individual’s perfect day. Once you have figured out what a perfect day looks like you can incorporate those types of moments and activities into more of your regular days. For example, my perfect day consists of going for a walk and seeing the beach. I can’t do a beach walk every day, but almost any day I can go for a regular walk and enjoy fresh air and a mental reset. I can create a “perfect day moment.” I have had a lot of perfect day moments the last 5 days and 4 nights at Sun Palace, but notably missing was time with my kids. Therefore, I can’t wait to get home! We arrived to Sun Palace on a Wednesday. Our good friends had been ther...
