Happy Birthday, Little Duck!

I can't believe that my little Via turns one today. I won't feel like she is really one until 7:16 p.m., the time she was born. I've been having a few flashbacks today to the beautiful horror endured in the delivery room. So worth it!

It seems like pregnancy, labor, and delivery lasted forever; however, once Via was born time has been rushing, rushing, rushing. I often forget that I'm pregnant because I'm so busy watching my first baby learn and grow and change so fast.

Sylvia Lynne Mederich has been given many nicknames. One of the first nicknames her daddy gave her once she entered the world is Little Duck. She had a cute head of hair when we met her, and it swooped in the back resembling a duck tail. Via hasn't always loved bath time, but she turned a corner around four months and began to enjoy bath time as well as the rubber ducks she got to play with during the sudsy fun. When she hit the 1/2 year mark I began to think about her first birthday party, and it wasn't long until I settled on a theme, Little Duck.

We had Via's Little Duck birthday yesterday and it was everything I could have hoped for. Sylvia enjoyed her whole day, and she was such a good girl. She ate an entire cupcake in record time and had such a sugar high that it took her about 40 minutes to talk herself to sleep last night. Usually it's less than 10 minutes. Here are some of my favorite pictures from yesterday's festivities.

Enjoying a pre-party bottle in her birthday suit.

The sandwich lunch spread was rounded out by duckbills (pringles), quackers (crackers), and a duck bathtub loaded with ice, pink lemonade, yellow lemonade, and water.

One of Via's many gifts was this cute winter hat from our neighbor, Sue.

A new set of ducks for the bathtub.

 My pretty girl.

Decorations were fun to prepare in advance.

I'm not heading to a reality baking show anytime soon, but I was pleased with the bathtub birthday cake I made after seeing something like it on pinterest.

A shot of some of the party guests.  We had 26 people crammed into our tiny home.  Grandma Kelli made the cute duck banner featured in the background.

Cake time!

Cake smash.  Yum!

Prettiest birthday girl.  Aunt Jasmine helped me with the birthday outfit.  She bought the headband and sparkly shoes and made the onesie.  I used a no-sew project for making her birthday tutu.

Blue-eyed girl.

 Going for some more.

Love this picture.  I'm so blessed to have Justin as my life partner, baby daddy, and best friend.

Sharing some cake with Daddy.

Giving Mommy a taste too.

This was taken after Via offered me a second bite of cake and then put it in her mouth at the last second.  Smart girl likes her sweets.

We played a little guessing game where guests put pictures of Via in order from birth through one year.

What a fantastic and blessed day.  I'm terrified to see just how fast this second year of her life will fly by.  I can't imagine everything that she will be able to do a year from now.  I just keep praying that the Lord would help her to grow and develop spiritually, mentally, and physically.  My Creator is not a careless mechanic, and my Little Duck is fearfully and wonderfully made.  Happy birthday, sweet girl!

Moon Palace Cancun Nizuc - 5 Things I LOVED, and 3 Things I didn't

All-Inclusive vacations may not be everyone's cup of tea, but over the past 6 years I have developed an appreciation (addiction) for taking a vacation where I don't really have to think much.  Between the demands of marriage, parenting, career, housework, and kids activities, it is really nice to pay a sum of money for your vacation and then just......enjoy!  Many all-inclusive resorts include more than just food and beverage.  There is often entertainment, activities, childcare, fitness classes, and plenty to keep you busy without leaving the property or spending additional money.  If you like, you can also book excursions or explore the local area at an extra expense.  We have rarely opted to do anything extra as we are typically happy to take advantage of the included options.   Listen, in my experience, you get what you pay for with, well, almost everything.  And that goes for all-inclusive resorts.  We have gone low-end, mid-range, and h...

Our Creator is not a Careless Mechanic

On Friday, November 2, Justin and I headed to our 41 week and 1 day checkup.  I had been having consistently inconsistent contractions for days, but.......Still.No.Baby.  My doctor wanted to monitor me and Via for half an hour and was looking for us to score 10 out of 10 points.  After half an hour of monitoring us she only found 6 points - also my blood pressure was much higher than it had been during the rest of my pregnancy.  Justin and I listened as she explained that the placenta may not be doing the best job for the baby anymore.  She looked at me and said, "If you were the type of mom that was planning to have an epidural, then I'd say let's go to the hospital, put you on pitocin, and have this baby."  She went on to say that since we favored a drug-free approach we had two options: 1.  Go to the hospital and be monitored for 24 hours to see if we could make up the 4 points we were missing.  If all looked good, then we could go ...

The Grand at Moon Palace - Family Vacation Summer 2022

Ever since the summer of 2017 my husband and I have taken some “adult-only” vacation time away each year. It started with a trip to Italy in celebration of our 10-year wedding anniversary. Then, in 2018, we began taking these “Annual Aways” at all-inclusive resorts. We first stayed at Ocean Maya Royale in 2018, then Único 2087 in 2019, followed by Atelier Playa Mujeres in 2020, and then Le Blanc Los Cabos in 2021. For the three most recent trips we had the good fortune of vacationing with some of our dear friends from Minnesota. It’s such a treat to take these trips with people we love.  During our Le Blanc Los Cabos trip in 2021 Justin and I started talking about how fun it would be to take the kids to an all-inclusive resort and maybe even my parents to thank them for diligently watching our kiddos each time so Justin and I can get away. When we were leaving Le Blanc they offered us a pretty great vacation package at any of their Palace Resorts. We bought two packages on the spot...
