I have been slacking on my blogging; no good. I missed Soren's 7 and 8 month updates as well as Via's 2 year, 2 month update. So, let's get caught up!
Soren will be 9 months on February 21, and is a wonder to behold. Cheeks. Rolls. Massive amounts of baby love going on when you snuggle this kid. He is basically crawling. Technically it's just an army crawl, but he gets up on all fours all the time. He just hasn't put the two together yet. He moves so fast. It's hard for us to keep up. He goes for the dog food. We pick it up in the nick of time. He wails. He's headed into the bathroom. We shut the door. He wails. He's a mostly happy kid, but is not super thrilled when he doesn't get what he wants.
Soren is 100% bottlefed. Even though it was my choice, it still makes me sad that I'm not nursing anymore. We no longer feed him at his nighttime wake-ups (more on that later), and pumping in the car, on the road, all the time was getting really old. Good riddance. He gets about 30 oz. a day and now joins us at the table for every meal. I really enjoy preparing homemade baby food. It's so easy, and I can't believe it's not a more common practice. Sweet potatoes and peas are two of his favorites. He'll do avocado if it's mixed with something sweet, like peaches or bananas. It's not hard to figure out by looking at him; he loves to eat!
Sleep. Oh sleep. Where did you go? For a while Soren was giving us a pretty routine 10-11 hour nighttime stretch of sleep. I don't know if it's the teething or what, but he's been up at least twice a night for the last week or so, and then is waking up early in the morning. Booooooo. I feel bad for him too, because I think that he's waking up due to pain. I try to enjoy the extra snuggles and close my eyes when I rock him, but keeping a positive attitude at 3:00 a.m. isn't always easy. I'm forever grateful that Justin is an all-in dad and that he takes plenty of turns in the middle of the night as well. I'm hoping that once this fourth tooth pops through we will resume the quality sleep schedule he was rocking before.
Via is hilarious. She is so chatty. She likes to help me set the table, loves to have her toe and finger nails painted, reads books all the time, and is generally a blast to be around.
Last Friday morning, I'm not sure what triggered it, but I decided that Via was more than ready to be potty trained. I put her in big girl panties and told her that she goes on the potty now. Then I went to the basement to work while Justin had to deal with suddenly being thrown into the world of potty training. Thanks, Justin! I'm not going to say it's been easy, and we're probably not fully "there" yet, but Via has only had 3 accidents since Friday morning. Yesterday we were at Staples and she had to go potty so we ran to the bathroom and she did her duty. Seriously. I was ecstatic. In the bathroom she told me she wanted to go on the blue potty (little one at home), but with a bit of coaxing she went on the big scary-looking toilet at Staples. We rewarded her with gummy bears. The most expensive gummy bears ever. Thanks a lot, Staples!
The Justin Mederich Family is in a nice place at the moment. Justin is done with school and is busy with his tie hobby. I'm enjoying my new (as of August) position at work so much more than the previous one. We do life with a really nice group of people. The future is unknown, but what isn't? I'm not going to even try to speculate on where we will be in a year from now. Your guess is as good as mine. Today I am enjoying the journey, and that's enough.

Via bo bia. Sitting on a pile of clothes that she originally made as Giraffe's bed.
A pic of Via and a pic of Soren. This sleep position must run in the family. :)
