She has a face!

It's hard to even know where to begin.  We have been out of town the last two Sundays, so I have not blogged in quite some time.  A lot has happened in the last few weeks.

First of all, we had a splendid time in Jamaica.  We arrived in Montego Bay at about 11 a.m. on Friday, August 31, and we were at the resort, in our suits, and on the beach by 1:00 p.m.  The hotel staff was so accommodating, and everybody seemed to give us preferential treatment due to my big baby belly.  All the guys on staff at the resort would say to Justin, "Much respect, mon!"  Being there and being pregnant was a pretty unique experience.  On Saturday we attended Jack and Stephanie's wedding and reception.  The wedding was beautiful and the reception was mega fun.  Here are a few pics.

Love this guy and this boat.  So fun!

So Jamaica was a blast.  We spent a lot of time on the beach, ate at almost all the different restaurants on the resort, went on a glass bottom boat tour, went snorkeling, hung out with great friends, enjoyed a beautiful wedding, and really enjoyed quality time with each other.  It was so nice to get away before baby Via makes her debut.

After Jamaica we spent a few days in Minnesconsin and a few hours in the ER.  Thursday night there was a Mederich/Carlson shower with a few Osceola friends mixed in.  Jasmine, Kelli, Hannah, and Marcia threw a great event.  The table was beautiful, the company was sweet, and I felt really blessed.

This is a funny one.  Me and my cousin/sister/lifelong bestie/etc, Hannah!

The game planner, Aunt Marcia!  I love playing "Baby Encore."

Friday morning Justin got really sick.  Like really sick.  He couldn't even keep water or pepto down.  In fact, he spewed pink vommit all over the Mederich's bathroom.  That was really fun to clean up.  Anyway, after a few hours of being absolutely miserable and being pretty dehydrated, Justin decided he wouldn't mind visiting the doctor.  A few hours, a few bags of IV fluids, and some strong intra-veinous anti-nausea medicine later, Justin was on his way to feeling better.

Poor guy....

It was during our two hours in the ER that I had a profound (for me) realization. Justin was resting, so I flipped on the TV and found myself watching "A Baby Story."  The woman they were featuring had a natural waterbirth and it was beautiful.  When the baby was born I was just completely struck by the fact that the baby had a face.  I know that sounds strange....of course he had a face!  It's just not something I had processed yet.  I believe life begins as conception, but during the first few months of pregnancy I just found it hard to believe that I was actually carrying a human.  Then there came a point when I started feeling her flutter around, and now I feel arms, legs, and elbows jabbing me all the time.  But I still can't see her face.  This part of her remains a mystery and I can't wait for that mystery to be revealed in a very short time.

On Saturday I was privileged to attend another lovely shower thrown for my baby girl.  My Aunt Betty got the Fisk ladies and a couple of my other old friends together at the cabin for a mid-morning brunch.  It was so nice.  The weather was a bit chilly, but I loved being able to spend a little bit of time at the family cabin.  One of my favorite parts is that there were a bunch of kiddos there.  It was fun seeing them all playing together and knowing that soon Via will be part of the fun.

Another lovely spread.  So yummy!

So blessed!

 Playtime at the cabin!

Saturday night Justin was feeling a little better so we went on a golf ball hunt with his family.  The puppies had the best time.

Sunday we hit the road for a trip back to reality.  It was a really nice time away, but it's also good to get back to the real world.

I've been blogging for awhile, so I'll leave yesterday's Branson Baby Shower for next week's update.

Until then!

Moon Palace Cancun Nizuc - 5 Things I LOVED, and 3 Things I didn't

All-Inclusive vacations may not be everyone's cup of tea, but over the past 6 years I have developed an appreciation (addiction) for taking a vacation where I don't really have to think much.  Between the demands of marriage, parenting, career, housework, and kids activities, it is really nice to pay a sum of money for your vacation and then just......enjoy!  Many all-inclusive resorts include more than just food and beverage.  There is often entertainment, activities, childcare, fitness classes, and plenty to keep you busy without leaving the property or spending additional money.  If you like, you can also book excursions or explore the local area at an extra expense.  We have rarely opted to do anything extra as we are typically happy to take advantage of the included options.   Listen, in my experience, you get what you pay for with, well, almost everything.  And that goes for all-inclusive resorts.  We have gone low-end, mid-range, and h...

Our Creator is not a Careless Mechanic

On Friday, November 2, Justin and I headed to our 41 week and 1 day checkup.  I had been having consistently inconsistent contractions for days, but.......Still.No.Baby.  My doctor wanted to monitor me and Via for half an hour and was looking for us to score 10 out of 10 points.  After half an hour of monitoring us she only found 6 points - also my blood pressure was much higher than it had been during the rest of my pregnancy.  Justin and I listened as she explained that the placenta may not be doing the best job for the baby anymore.  She looked at me and said, "If you were the type of mom that was planning to have an epidural, then I'd say let's go to the hospital, put you on pitocin, and have this baby."  She went on to say that since we favored a drug-free approach we had two options: 1.  Go to the hospital and be monitored for 24 hours to see if we could make up the 4 points we were missing.  If all looked good, then we could go ...

The Grand at Moon Palace - Family Vacation Summer 2022

Ever since the summer of 2017 my husband and I have taken some “adult-only” vacation time away each year. It started with a trip to Italy in celebration of our 10-year wedding anniversary. Then, in 2018, we began taking these “Annual Aways” at all-inclusive resorts. We first stayed at Ocean Maya Royale in 2018, then Único 2087 in 2019, followed by Atelier Playa Mujeres in 2020, and then Le Blanc Los Cabos in 2021. For the three most recent trips we had the good fortune of vacationing with some of our dear friends from Minnesota. It’s such a treat to take these trips with people we love.  During our Le Blanc Los Cabos trip in 2021 Justin and I started talking about how fun it would be to take the kids to an all-inclusive resort and maybe even my parents to thank them for diligently watching our kiddos each time so Justin and I can get away. When we were leaving Le Blanc they offered us a pretty great vacation package at any of their Palace Resorts. We bought two packages on the spot...
