Easter Review

I am successfully blogging before the arrival of Soren.  Congratulations to me!

We missed the Fisk Easter gathering this year because Via and I were sick.  Super bummer!  On the Friday night before Easter Justin and I had put Via to bed and were watching TV on the couch.  At about 9:30 p.m. Via woke up and Justin hopped up and said, "I'm going to save her!"  He went into her bedroom and found that the poor girl was puking everywhere.  He called for me and I took put her in the bath to clean her up and calm her down.  Poor thing didn't calm down a bit and was shaking like a leaf.  Finally when she was cleaned up we settled in front of her favorite show (Daniel Tiger) and she relaxed a bit.  Near the end of the 26 minute episode she started puking again, so I decided to call the nurses line.  The nurse asked me a series of questions one of them being, "Did she bonk her head hard today?"  I told her that she had bonked prety hard shortly before bed.  The nurse stopped asking questions and advised that it could be a brain injury and suggested we call 911.  Well......we weren't going to call an ambulance since the hospital is so close and Via seemed alert and everything, but we did decide to drive to the ER to make sure everything was okay.

In the car our little girl puked a third time.  Poor poor baby.  I've never felt so sad for her and I can't imagine the families that go through serious illnesses and watch their children suffer more often than not.  Anyway, we got to the ER and Via was just so tired.  They got us in to see a doctor and the doctor was just terrible.  I know she was doing her job, and I appreciate her years of medical schooling, but the bedside manner was just stressful rather than calming.  The doctor said we needed to do a CT Scan before Via could eat or drink anything, and all Via wanted was a drink of water so she was in total meltdown mode.

The CT Scan was probably the most horrific part of the whole episode.  They strapped her legs, arms, and face in to ensure she wouldn't move and she cried for mommy and daddy the whole time.  Talk about heartbreaking.  Thankfully the scan came back clean.  Via had thrown up a total of 6 times by the time we got to go home, but thankfully that was the end of that part of the sickness for her.  We were told that, if anything, she might have a concussion so keep a close eye on her.

As soon as we got home she crashed and Justin slept in her room to make sure he was right there in case anything were to happen.

Apparently what Via had must have been a virus, because in the middle of the night I began to feel queezy and proceeded to become much too well-aquainted with the bathroom for the rest of the night.  Really.  Not.  Fun.  Justin took such good care of both of us all day Saturday and Sunday (his birthday!).  I don't know what we would have done if he had been sick too.  I'm also super grateful that we have phenomenal friends who bring sick people yummy things like gatorade, bananas, soup, and mashed potatoes.  Hooray for community!

Since Justin's birthday was lame-o because he was caring for his sick family rather than being celebrated we decided to splurge and go to a Wild playoff game that week.  It was too fun!  I was glad for a night out with my hubby.

Thankfully, the next weekend we enjoyed an Easter re-do with the Mederich family.  Grandma Kelli hid some Easter eggs for Via to find and Via looked so pretty in the pink dress that Nana sent from California.  It's hard to believe that next year at Easter we will have an 11-month old little man!  We really could meet Soren any day now, but I don't mind if he waits until May 12th, or even a little bit after.  :)

Happy Easter cupcake.

She kills me in this one.  Kind of a grumpy gus.  :)

Moon Palace Cancun Nizuc - 5 Things I LOVED, and 3 Things I didn't

All-Inclusive vacations may not be everyone's cup of tea, but over the past 6 years I have developed an appreciation (addiction) for taking a vacation where I don't really have to think much.  Between the demands of marriage, parenting, career, housework, and kids activities, it is really nice to pay a sum of money for your vacation and then just......enjoy!  Many all-inclusive resorts include more than just food and beverage.  There is often entertainment, activities, childcare, fitness classes, and plenty to keep you busy without leaving the property or spending additional money.  If you like, you can also book excursions or explore the local area at an extra expense.  We have rarely opted to do anything extra as we are typically happy to take advantage of the included options.   Listen, in my experience, you get what you pay for with, well, almost everything.  And that goes for all-inclusive resorts.  We have gone low-end, mid-range, and h...

Our Creator is not a Careless Mechanic

On Friday, November 2, Justin and I headed to our 41 week and 1 day checkup.  I had been having consistently inconsistent contractions for days, but.......Still.No.Baby.  My doctor wanted to monitor me and Via for half an hour and was looking for us to score 10 out of 10 points.  After half an hour of monitoring us she only found 6 points - also my blood pressure was much higher than it had been during the rest of my pregnancy.  Justin and I listened as she explained that the placenta may not be doing the best job for the baby anymore.  She looked at me and said, "If you were the type of mom that was planning to have an epidural, then I'd say let's go to the hospital, put you on pitocin, and have this baby."  She went on to say that since we favored a drug-free approach we had two options: 1.  Go to the hospital and be monitored for 24 hours to see if we could make up the 4 points we were missing.  If all looked good, then we could go ...

The Grand at Moon Palace - Family Vacation Summer 2022

Ever since the summer of 2017 my husband and I have taken some “adult-only” vacation time away each year. It started with a trip to Italy in celebration of our 10-year wedding anniversary. Then, in 2018, we began taking these “Annual Aways” at all-inclusive resorts. We first stayed at Ocean Maya Royale in 2018, then Único 2087 in 2019, followed by Atelier Playa Mujeres in 2020, and then Le Blanc Los Cabos in 2021. For the three most recent trips we had the good fortune of vacationing with some of our dear friends from Minnesota. It’s such a treat to take these trips with people we love.  During our Le Blanc Los Cabos trip in 2021 Justin and I started talking about how fun it would be to take the kids to an all-inclusive resort and maybe even my parents to thank them for diligently watching our kiddos each time so Justin and I can get away. When we were leaving Le Blanc they offered us a pretty great vacation package at any of their Palace Resorts. We bought two packages on the spot...
