40 weeks came and went. Nothing. I made it to my 41 week checkup and hoped that I wouldn't have to be induced like last time. Ultrasound looked great. Blood pressure looked great. Let the waiting game continue! This was a Monday.
Tuesday.
Around noon I started to notice "things." Possible early signs of labor, but nothing major. During dinner I casually glanced at my watch to check the time because I thought I was having a real contraction. Having not gone into spontaneous labor with Via I wasn't 100% sure what I should be expecting. It didn't hurt really, so I thought perhaps it was nothing. Made it through the evening with a few more here and there and then went to bed as usual. Around 11:15 I woke up to a contraction and glanced at my watch again. Fell asleep. This went on for two hours or so. Contraction. Check watch. Sleep. 10 minutes. 9 minutes. 8 minutes. 7 minutes. 1:30 a.m. This contraction gets me out of bed. I go into Soren's room with a book and my handy dandy contraction timer app. 6 minutes. Hmmmmm. I should tell Justin.
"Justin, I'm in labor. I'll get you up when I think things are serious. You should call your sister. I think she should come sooner than later to stay with Via."
Back into Soren's room to continue to labor. 5 minutes. 4 minutes. Uh oh.....this really hurts.
"Justin. Call a neighbor to come stay with Via until Jasmine gets here. We need to go the hospital right now."
2:30 a.m. We arrive at the hospital. I am checked and found to be at 9 cm. What?!?!?!!?
Midwife says, "You're going to push soon."
Me, "What about my water birth?"
We head down the hallway to the water birth room. My midwife tells me that if there is meconium in the fluid when my water breaks than a water birth is out. She will break my water after 3 more contractions. On the second contraction my water breaks. Meconium. Darn. Oh well. Time to push!
3:32 a.m. We meet Soren Fisk Mederich. 9 lbs. 4.8 oz. 21.5 inches long. Healthy beautiful. Little brother.
My prayer for this labor and delivery was that it would be a testimony to the medical staff who were assisting us. It was a very short time in the delivery room, but it was truly beautiful for me. We had worship music on and I would sometimes sing along between contractions to keep my mind and body at rest. One of the songs that played is the one that goes, "In the morning when I rise....give me Jesus." I changed the words right away to, "In the hospital when I deliver....give me Jesus." Worship music and Joshua 1:9 were such a great help for me when I was pushing. Have I not commanded you, be strong and courageous. Clearly this verse isn't referencing birthing a baby, but there was a moment when I first began pushing when I flashed back to the 2.5 hours I spent getting Via out and I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to get Soren out. This verse immediately came to me and I spoke it out a few times over and over again. Needless to say, 11 minutes was a lot less than 2.5 hours. The end.

Via came to meet her brother the next morning. His sweet big sister.
Recreation of our first family photo with Via. Uncle Jordan pretty much nailed it.
Day 5 of having Little Brother home in this picture and Via is finally getting a little less jealous of sharing her parents affection. Lots of love to go around. :)
